Last night I drove to Melbourne and went to see the amazing Kate Miller-Heidke at the East Brunswick Club in Melbourne. I went with my friend Denise, and we also met up with one of my lovely students Rachael and her lovely, very tall and very socially considerate husband Pete (who stood up the back so as not to get in any ones way, nice huh?). I am not quite sure how I first stumbled onto Kate’s music, but I know it was through iTunes, I have been a fan since last year and she is finally getting some well earned recognition. The band was also fabulous and complimented her beautifully, both musically and with great backing vocals. I am now eagerly awaiting her next album, due out in October/November after hearing a few songs from it, one in particular I loved, but can’t quite remember the name…sorry! She was also very engaging and full of humour, very cute indeed! And oh what a strong and versatile voice.
The nice surprise for the night was the band that preceded her The Little Stevies, just loved their style and the harmonies were fabulous, it’s great to see people having fun on stage and they are clearly enjoying the ride, I recommend you check them out, I am currently downloading their first release on iTunes called Grow Up. They really remind me of The Waifs, which is a huge compliment.
I can’t remember the last time I went to a pub to see a band, and after the reminder I really think it is the only way to go, up close and personal… I think Denise and I are keen to do it again soon… Also the East Brunswick Club was a great venue and we enjoyed a lovely meal before the music too.

Hey Lee, great to hear that you had a wonderful night! Just had a quick look at the links and the music sounds great. Oh and how did you go with the new gps?
hey sounds like you girls had a great night, that’s fantastic. the old pub days of seeing bands certainly has gone sadly. yeah and how did ‘tom tom’ go? much easier ?
Hey Lee, feel a bit famous getting a mention. And don’t think my tall husband is sooo socially concious… i think he preferred to be away from me!!! Well that could still me considered socially concious i guess!!! Loved Kate M-H. Went and chatted with her after the show and got her to sign a cd for us and believe it or not she seemed quite shy but gorgous!!! Had a great night and all we have listened to since Friday night is her music.
I love live bands, nothing better! Don’t get to see them much anymore…maybe when the kids are older!
Great to hear you had a good time!
