New Blog!

by Lee on September 10, 2016

Hey everyone!

Wow, 5 years since I last updated this blog! Shame on me! Life got busy, my focused changed, new directions emerged and some things got left behind.

My life is evolving again, and I have new projects on the horizon, with a renewed focus on giving myself time to be creative, creative in many different ways, trying new things and sharing what I learn along the way.

So I’d love it if you’d join me in my new journey, by subscribing and visiting me at my new blog!

I have been fluffing around, tweaking and refining the blog, but I have come to realise that I just need to jump in! I am definitely out of practice, but it’s time, so please, come over, subscribe and let me know you’re there! I would love to hear from you!

I’m kicking off An Abundance Of Ordinary with ‘Blog-tember’, I am already 10 days behind, so I will do a couple of blog entries a day until I catch up. Why not join in?

Anyway, I sincerely hope that you will pop over and help me kick start my new journey.

{ Quickie and a Tip }

by Lee on August 31, 2008

I’m alive, just busy. Not much me time at the moment. I am working on a fix for that now, so wish me luck and hang in there. I also have freebies to upload, but (there is always a but when it comes to freebies LOL) I am once again over my download limit for the month and I am once again suffering through dial up until my new month ticks over in another week. Then I will upload and post the link.

I added a 100 Things About Me page a while back, but forgot to let you all know. I see these on other blogs and really enjoy reading through them, it’s amazing what you find out about people this way. I have hit the 80 RSS subscriber mark, + 70 email subscribers too, so someone must be reading this blog, maybe you’d like to know a little more about me (or not) let me know what you think.

The lovely Gill has honoured me with an Arty Pico Award. Thanks so much Gill you are a sweetheart! I shall award mine in a future blog post, so be on the look out…

I’m not sure how I came across this video, but down the bottom is the magazine that stars my baby and my Cover Layout for Digital Scrapbooking Magazine! Must say I was pretty chuffed when I noticed it!

This video is scary…. imagine what is happening to your brain while you are on the phone…

Photoshop Tip # 9

My students particularly liked this recent PS tip, so I thought you might too…
You may know that when you hit Control T, it is the shortcut for Free Transform, but sometimes whatever you might be trying to Transform is so big that you can’t see the handles to make your changes, simply hit Control 0 (zero), this will reduce the canvas size, so you can see the Transform handles and Transform to your hearts content!
I hope you found this useful.

Feel Good…

I’m sure you’ve seen this, but it’s such a feel good clip that it deserves to be shared, watch it, and then hug someone today….

Lastly, so I am not excused of preferential blog entries, I’d like to report that at the last Puerto Rico evening, Brian won 1 and Suzy won 1, of course, if you include the handicap, Clinton has won every game since we started, (and some that we haven’t even played yet) but of course that only applies when we are playing in NEVER NEVER LAND!!!

And so I don’t disadvantage myself here, at the previous Puerto Rico evening, I won 2 and Jen won 1. And in case you’re wondering Clinton, that happened in the REAL WORLD! Where there are no Never Never Land handicaps! ;-P

{ Freebie Time }

by Lee on August 10, 2008

But first, gotta tell you, we got a Wii Fit… oh man I am having soooo much fun on it, makes up ( a little) for not getting an iPhone, not really but I am trying to stay positive… anyway, we are all having so much fun on it, competing for highest points. New games open up the more time you spend on it… can’t recommend it enough. I spent over an hour on it today, even though I had several cyber wines with Jude last night…. but that’s another story….

I have started teaching again, which has been fun, this term we are concentrating on editing photos for layouts and so far the girls are really enjoying the techniques and can see how much their photos can be improved. We’ll probably head back into Digital Scrapbooking in the last half of the term. As always, I have a great bunch of eager students.

This weekend marked then end of the girls’ netball season, so our weekends will be freed up now, just in time as the weather is starting to improve and we can embark on our caravanning again. Looks like our next holiday will be on the Great Ocean Road, which should be nice as we haven’t been down that way before, but we have a caravan park in mind which was recommended to us.

I will post my next Photoshop Tip through the week, I am supposed to be going out soon and since I spent too much time on the Wii, I am running a little (well, a lot) late!

Share the freebie love: If you post a link on your blog to this freebie, you will be getting an extra freebie in return Offer Expired... post a comment here with a link to your blog post and I’ll email you the freebie download details. I made this kit a while back as part of the Digital Scrapbooking Magazines Best and Brightest competition. Enjoy :-)

Lastly, you need to check out the Scraps Of Mind blog, I had never visited this blog before, but there is a great deal of fabulous information here, one of my favourites was this article on RSS feeds and how to subscribe using them. Great info indeed, head over and check it out.

I’m sure there was something else that I meant to mention, but it escapes me right now… probably because I am pressed for time… or maybe it’s because I am slightly fuzzy today…

Happy Scrapping :-)

Blue Bayou

This gave me a laugh, I found The Lazy Bloggers Post Generator at… what a great idea! I am sure I may find some uses for it, being a blogger and lazy, it’s made for me…

PHOTOSHOP TIP #6, #7 and #8

OK two three short and sweet ones here….

Tip #6 ~ Control>J copies the current layer. Love this one, use it regularly…

Tip #7 ~ Shift>Control>Alt>N Creates a New Layer, bypassing the New Layer Dialogue box, which can be pesky…

Tip #8 ~ or if you want the New Layer dialogue box, just hit Control>Shift>N then you can name the layer, change the blend mode, change the Opacity and change the colour of the layer in the Layers Palette all at the same time, before you even touch the New Layer….

Anything you’d like to see in these tips? Well post a comment and ask!

Have a great day :-)

{ Mojo – less }

by Lee on July 20, 2008

Well it’s been one of those days,

no weeks,

actually months,

well, really, several months…

I’ve lost my mojo!

I can’t remember the last time I did a layout. I usually struggle getting layouts done while I am teaching, but I’m not at the moment, so that can’t be the reason… I usually figure that these things can’t be forced, if I patiently wait, my mojo usually returns, but it hasn’t so far. I am thinking I may need to try a few things to get it back.

I don’t usually look at digiscrapping galleries, so I may have to trawl around and check some out.

I don’t usually use kits either, I make almost everything myself, with the exception of most brushes, so maybe I need to do some shopping (good excuse! LOL).

Maybe I need to get some new photos to scrap… it’s winter here and I don’t seem to get the camera out as much as I’d like.

Maybe I need to leave Photoshop alone. I use it every day, making stuff (to give away here, usually), experimenting with photos and trying out new techniques that will be useful to my students. Maybe I should have a complete break and see if that helps, I am easily distracted at the moment. I open a picture to use in a layout and then get sidetracked, making a brush, or choosing the ‘perfect’ font, thinking of a catchy title, deciding on colours, then nothing gets done because I sweat the small stuff….

Any suggestions? What do you do when you lose your mojo?

Also wanted to thank everyone that took the time to leave a comment and thank me for the freebie last week. It’s nice to finally get to know a little about the lovely people that drop by here. Everyone should have a link to the comment freebie by now, but if you have missed out, just let me know. The comments will keep me motivated to continue doing my Photoshop Tips and of course more freebies. I will also be giving away random comment prizes… you just never know if your comment will be the one that wins!

Faux Photoshop Tip

For my Photoshop tip today, I am going to post some links to articles I have written for Several people that commented on the last post are new to Digital Scrapbooking, so hopefully these article will help some of the newbies out there.

What is Digital Scrapbooking? The Basics (Part 2)

Crazy For Clipping

I also have a freebie to upload, but my trial version of Smart FTP ran out so I don’t have any way of uploading. Can anyone out there recommend an FTP client that is easy to use and cheap, or better yet free? Let me know :-)

Lastly, I received my copy of Digital Scrapbooking Magazine. In it appears the layout below. I love this photo of Bronte, I never thought they would use it the magazine as it is so plain and simple, but really who could resist those big beautiful brown eyes. I know I can’t! Word Art is by Anna Aspnes. No-one does word art better…. The photo was taken by me in her bedroom, against her freshly painted pink wall (colour chosen by Bronte). It made a lovely back drop.

Below is a set of three pictures that I framed and gave to my boss for his birthday of his three children. They did look great printed and I think he was pretty happy with them, all 3 of them have the most beautiful blue eyes. They are all gorgeous.

PHOTOSHOP TIP #4 (and #5)

OK this is a nice easy one, I’m sure most people know that hitting the letter “D” on the keyboard will get your foreground/background colours back to default. Very useful, particularly when using layer masks. The second tip is that by hitting the letter “X” on the keyboard, will switch between the foreground and background colours, again this can be very useful when using layer masks, easily switching between colours to mask areas out or back in, as the case may be. It’s also useful when try to add texture to backgrounds, switching between two colours and painting will add depth, particularly if you are using a textured, or grunge brush.
